We are back in the new year with more maker features and we are excited to tell you all about one of our more recent additions to the shop, Mug Love. Katie Short is the owner and maker over at Mug Love based in Saginaw, Michigan. She was born and raised there and still lives there to this day! She says, “some fun facts about me; I have a secret obsession with plants, I'm a crazy cat lady, and I don't drink coffee. Which is weird since I make coffee mugs.”

Katie has been doing work for Mug Love on the side for extra money for a while. She worked at a big retail store for several years and when her job got eliminated she decided to dive into the mug making business head on. Having the funds to get started with buying necessary equipment was hard at first, so she started off selling many vintage mugs and got great recognition. She says, '“just last year I finally got the equipment I needed. It took me 8 years but I did it!” Therefore, many of the mugs in her shop now are hand designed and printed by her!

In the future Katie would love to do Mug Love full time and have the ability to give back to her community in some way through her business. Her favorite part of the process is when a mug sells, it still makes her so excited even all these years later. One last piece of advice that Katie left us with, “if you are thinking about starting a business, or turning your hobby into your job, try it! It doesn't hurt to try and who knows, maybe you'll just succeed.” We are so excited to currently have three of Katie’s handmade designs at the shop.
